Teeside Vampire

In an Irish pub in Paris, talking to a guy from Middlesborough and a guy from Stoke.  Each were trying to interest me in visiting their corner of England.  In trying to sell me on Boro, Dave said “Dracula is from Boro.”  He was clearly a bit drunk, but even so it was bizarre statement, and it took me awhile to process what he might mean.  Finally, having apparently undergone a similar mental process, Ade burst out gleefully “Dracula weren't no fuckin' Geordie, mate!”  But Dave was serious, if muddled, and tried to clarify by saying that he meant that Dracula “was buried there.”  This made no more sense, but I figured it was better to not mess with hometown pride, no matter how strange the basis.
